For first time homebuyers, the $8,000 tax credit that helped buyers in 2009 has been extended and expanded in 2010, although buyers must sign a contract to buy a home by April 30th to qualify for the credit. For those who have owned their home for at least five years and want to trade up to a different primary residence, a $6,500 tax credit has been added.
